and around this time, andrew became a HUGE fan of batman the 1966 verison...
one day i went shopping at the grocery store and took a detour through the toy aisle. and that's when I saw it...a batman mask...my wheels began to turn.
with the help of the trusty reward chart, andrew and i started to work towards a goal. if he could go the next four days without a fuss at bed and nap, I would go back to the grocery store and pick up a batman mask all for him. over & over, we talked about what we were working towards and i tell you, it worked like a charm. if he did it right (no fussing) he was able to put a star on the chart when he woke up. there was one day, he threw a minor fit but still a fit so he didn't get a star and oh what a lesson to learn. the next day, he was a champ. and then the next day, he got sick and had a 102 fever when i put him to bed. the picture below is right smack in the middle of it, he was half asleep, half watching--BATMAN. (in his batman pj's with his boots on--so Andrew)
as i laid him down to sleep that night, i told him that if he needed us tonight to call us. since he was sick, we would be there in a flash if he needed me. well, midnight rolls around and i had just fallen to sleep when i heard on the monitor, "mama. mama, i need you!" so i fumbled for my glasses and went to scoop up the boy. we cuddled, we rocked & we drank some juice and he started to sleep on my chest. "andrew, do you want to come to Mommy & Daddy's room?" (because that is how we roll when we have a sick child) and he lifts head, points to his room and says, "No, crib. I need Batman mask."
friends that boy was 2 stars away from earning his mask but you can gurantee that the next morning I traveled to the grocery store to pick up the mask for him. I was so proud of him for choosing his crib over our bed when he was SICK!
so the next day, after his nap--i bring the batman mask to hm. it typically takes andrew a long time to warm up to new things so I was prepared for him to not be thrilled with it since the masks are not the same ones he wears at Aunt Mere's house. we looked at it. we sat it down on the couch for a while and then we put it up to his face to just see what it felt like. he turns to me and says, "You wear it." and so I did PROUDLY! because let's be honest, we both worked hard for the Batman Mask.
and yes, i have been known to clean the house in the batman mask...i guess i am a fan too! :)
